Congratulations to SA+C Resource Council member Jessica Calderwood, who was recently awarded a DeHaan Artist of Distinction grant, sponsored by indyarts.org. This grant includes $10,000 to support new and innovative artist projects. “I will be creating a new body of work that combines community engagement and collaboration with local industry.
By collaborating with community members who have immigrated to Delaware County, Indiana, I plan to reinterpret patterned textiles from their home countries, in glass and metal, in an effort to celebrate and memorialize their past and present.”
Trained as a metalsmith and enamelist, Jessica Calderwood’s art objects make statements about contemporary life using craft-based media.
Since receiving her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from Arizona State University, her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and internationally. She has participated in artist residencies with the John Michael Kohler Arts/Industry Program, Ferro Corporation, Mesa Arts Center, and Muncie Metal Spinning. Jessica works in several mediums.
