Janet Kawada thinks of life as a result of our experiences stitched together. In this studio visit, Janet will share her process of conceptualizing and creating her work (sculptures, wall pieces, and indoor and outdoor installations) while constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries of textile possibilities.
Kawada taught at MassArt for over 25 years, as well as numerous workshops, and curated exhibits throughout her career. Her work can be found in collections around the United States, Canada, and Japan, and she is included in the book, Artistry in Fiber. Her recent work explores the theme of place, home, and our footprints on the earth.
Contemporary textile art is a mixture of ancient techniques merged with modern technology, creating works that tell stories. Janet Kawada will discuss the myriad of opportunities that are available to contemporary fiber artists, and discuss her own work in the context of this changing environment.
