The Society of Arts + Crafts is pleased to announce that Miguel Gomez-Ibanez will be the juror for this year’s Mineck Fellowship, a $25,000 cash prize awarded to an outstanding, early-career furniture maker.

Miguel Gómez‐Ibáñez is a nationally recognized designer and maker of studio furniture. His work has been featured in American Craft and Fine Woodworking and has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country. He has contributed articles and essays on furniture and design to Fine Woodworking, Woodworker’s Journal, and Furniture Studio. Miguel is President Emeritus of North Bennet Street School, a past president of The Furniture Society, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and the American Craft Council, as well as on the board of the Society of Arts + Crafts.

The Boston-based John D. Mineck Foundation created this fellowship to encourage furniture artists with financial assistance to help them succeed in their artistic journey — through apprenticeship, working to develop their skills, and/or making the transition to independence. The criteria for selections include quality of the artwork, strength of vision, and a portfolio that evidences growth beyond school or university work, as well as a CV that demonstrates perseverance and commitment to an artistic career.
