My Life as an Earring II

By Sally Prangley

I have worked with found objects for a long time, making basketry, purses, and jewelry using the jetsam and flotsam of life. I have a wonderful (and extensive!) collection of small objects gathered over decades from vintage shops, yard sales, my kids’ rooms— just about everywhere! Despite its misleading title, My Life as an Earring is sold in pairs. I choose items that represent a variety of textures, colors, shapes, and prior purposes. Objects are framed within a wire shape that mirrors their outlines, then securely wired into the frame. I use fine gauge wire and lightweight objects to ensure the earrings are comfortable to wear. The objects vary in every earring. This pair features a compass, rhinestone Eiffel Tower, tiny dice, woman's shoe with a kitten heel, a trio of cherries, and a little pink flower!
