Lumpfish #19

By The Art of Crafting Design, Christine Dentremont

1 in stock

Seeing a lumpfish in the coastal waters of New England is like winning a rare prize. Beautiful and rounded, these creatures range in colors from aqua blue, grey, yellow, brown, and showy red. The porcelain I use to create these fish echoes their bright white underbellies. Each piece is marked with a glaze emblem and numbered. There are 50 lumpfish in this collector’s series.

About the artist

As an artist trained in industrial design, Christine Dentremont’s work explores the intersection of art and function. Born and raised in New York State, her connection with Maine started on summer vacations in the 1980s. Two days after leaving Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., she jumped at the chance to relocate to an island off the coast of Maine and she happily spent the next few years earning her living as a sternman on a lobsterboat. Family and community became a priority. Still, design remained a strong pull. She found herself viewing the environment in terms of form—the waves of the sea, the curve of a hull, the creatures of the deep. Her current body of craft contains visual reflections of her experience living on the coast the past twenty- two years. ...Read MoreRead Less
