Bolhuis, Kristine Kristine BolhuisKristine Bolhuis received her MFA in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2003. She also holds a BFA in Metals from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and a BA in History of Art from the University of Michigan. Her jewelry is an exploration of lightweight metal constructions that move, shift, and collapse. She experiments with hand-fabricated and forged links with moveable riveted joints.
Early in life she was drawn to the bent plywood chairs of Charles and Ray Eames which were manufactured near her childhood home in Michigan. Her fascination with the Eames’, and the metalwork and wire jewelry of Harry Bertoia, led her to study at Cranbrook Academy of Art, known as the cradle of American Modernism. Currently, she and her family live within and surrounded by modernism in a 1964 architect-designed modernist home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
