About the artist

Mya R. Nelson is a woodworker and science writer who splits her time between Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. Her interest in woodworking was sparked after accidentally walking into a woodworking class. "I jumped into the craft on my own, initially, without a lot of training or guidance. I just went with whatever interested me the most, and learning from my mistakes. I was bending and shaping wood into furniture before I even knew about joinery." After juggling part-time woodworking with a full-time science/health writing career, Nelson left her full-time writing job to study at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine, where she completed their nine-month comprehensive course, followed by a studio fellowship. She makes both furniture and everyday pieces for the home. ...Read MoreRead Less
