Tesserae in Refracted Light, An Art Quilt

I photographed a Pileated Woodpecker that was perched outside my studio window. From there I complete an eleven-color photo silkscreen on white cotton fabric using fabric paints. I completed the composition by use of fabric paints, airbrushing and hand-painting. I did all of these steps two times creating identical works of art. I then cut one panel into vertical strips and the other panel into horizontal strips. I wove these together and quilted the entire single artwork using multi-colored threads and the satin stitch on my sewing machine.
