This black burnished slab-built bowl has a contemporary, quiet feel with just a bit of playfulness in its textured patch with two dancing red dots. It was fired in a traditional pit fire, turning the clay from white to black.

About the artist

Paula Shalan is the second in three generations of potters. She shows her work nationally and has received awards of distinction from The Smithsonian Craft Show and The Society of Arts + Crafts for her hand-formed, smoke-fired ceramics.
