About the artist

Beijing, China-based artist Shuling Chen designs contemporary jewelry through a combination of textile materials and metals. She uses silver and weaving techniques to design unique jewelry pieces. During her second year of college, she spent her spare time learning jewelry skills and began to consider changing her major to a graduate program. Her master's thesis work, also on display in this exhibition, is a series of jewelry pieces designed using silver as the main material, combined with enamel, weaving, and 3D printing techniques. During the same period, one of the pieces was successfully selected for the 2022 RIT Visual Exhibition. Chen received her BFA in Textile Design from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in 2019. Her MFA is in Metal and Jewelry Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, which she completed in April 2022.
