Illusion: Spiral

What is an illusion? The dictionary defines it as “a thing that is or is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted by the senses." When viewed against the base color, my Illusion scarves create the illusion that the motif is floating on the wearer. These scarves are made with silk organza that is woven in Kazakhstan, individual artisans preserving a technique that is centuries old along the historic Silk Road. I then felt into the base fabric using 100% merino wool. They are wide enough to wrap around your shoulders and can be squished up to wear as a scarf.

About the artist

Barbara Poole has been creating fashion felt accessories and teaching felt making techniques in the Boston area since 2003. She has a Masters in Art Education from the Mass College of Art, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tufts University and the Museum School of Fine Arts. She began her career as a painter but after falling in love with felting and she made the switch in 2003.
