A friend in the aerospace industry gave the artist a large packet of plastic samples in an array of shapes, colors, and textures, with no explanation on how they are used in airplane production. The artist just knew the discs felt like 1950’s mid-century America, in both color and material. And knew a basket must be made featuring them. The title of the basket, Happify: 1958, is how the artist feels when working with the curious plastic discs. Using annealed steel wire, the plastic discs are added during the weaving process. The basket rim is finished with contrasting white seed beads.
