Grapevine Crazy Quilt Block

Crazy Quilt Blocks are traditionally made from fabric, and my inspiration came from a fabric artist who used the most wonderful textiles from her trip around the world, but this is polymer clay. Each section of the quilt is a separate veneer which is then cut up and fit into place like a puzzle. The pieces are separated by a ribbon of black and the block hopefully contains enough resting space for the eye. This particular set of colors is my version of a grapevine. The quilt block is then framed to hang on the wall.

About the artist

Midcoast Maine artist Linda Leach has been working with polymer clay since 2003. In 2017 she won the coveted Niche Award in the Polymer Jewelry category, thanks to a new etching alternative technique she created for making polymer clay jewelry. Leach is comfortable in many media, working in clay, oils, metal and digital photography. Creating new techniques in polymer clay and mixed media tied her for first place in wearable jewelry from the International Polymer Clay Association in 2019. She has since published a number of magazine articles detailing mixed media techniques in issues of Polymer Arts, Belle Armoire Jewelry, Polymer Jewelry, and recently in Passion for Polymer. She enjoys teaching both polymer and oil painting and was recently one of seven presenters in the new Polymer Art Summit featuring Mokume Gane techniques. Plans for classes in polymer crazy quilts are in the works for 2022. ...Read MoreRead Less
