This glamorous basket is right at home at a dinner party, whether as the centerpiece filled with bread, cup cakes or fruit, or the artist’s favorite treat to pass at a party: fortune cookies! The Dinner Party Basket is made using many construction techniques in traditional reed basketry which the artist adapted to wire. Annealed steel wire in several gauges is used: thick dark wire for the spokes and weaver, and almost threadlike wire for the base and to lash the weaver to each spoke. Tiny glass and crystal beads are randomly woven into the base and lashed to the outside and inside of the spokes. The rim is completed with hundreds of glass and crystal beads secured with the threadlike wire.
