In the window of the Retail Gallery for the month of September, we have a selection of textiles from artist Amy Nguyen. Amy explains in her artist statement, “As with intricately folded origami, my process begins with folding or pleating a rectangular piece of white cloth, most often silk. I stitch and manipulate the fabric throughout the dyeing process until deep, rich color and layers of texture unfold. Detailed machine stitching reveals additional subtle texture and dimension. Just as unpredictable beauty emerges from the ordered law of nature, so my craft culminates in a process involving both planned manipulation and the element of chance.”
The retail gallery is located on the first floor of the SAC building at 175 Newbury Street (between Dartmouth St. and Exeter St.) in the historic Back Bay neighborhood and gallery district of Boston.
Hours:
Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-6pm
Sundays, 12-5pm
Mondays by appointment
The retail gallery represents over 300 artists from across the United States. All work is selected by the SAC retail jury and profits directly support the artists and SAC programming.
